Private Lessons for Weddings
Private lessons are an ideal complement to our group classes or the perfect option if you prefer individualized instruction. During your private lesson, you and your fiancee will work with a single instructor. The material will be based on your individual requests, and your teacher will move at a pace which is comfortable for you both.
Depending on your first song, we’ll recommend you begin or focus on one of the following styles:
- Wedding Dance (perfect for both classic & contemporary songs)
- Swing
- Waltz
- Foxtrot
- Salsa
Duration
Private lessons are 55-minutes.
Space
Private lessons take place in our of our private studios.
Participants
Typically, private lessons are comprised of a couple working with an instructor.
If you would like to make your wedding preparation lessons a more social affair, you are welcome to invite friends and family to join you (up to 3 couples). Once we reach 7 or more participants, please inquire about a small group lesson designed and scheduled just for your group.

Instructors
Our instructors have the talent, experience and sense of humor to make the dance accessible to everyone. Our “General Instructors” are talented, knowlegable and delightful. Our “Master Instructors” possess all those qualities with additional years of experience. Our featured master instructors include, Ron Ford and Mari Ford, founders of Dance Center Chicago, and Julee Mertz, founder of Big City Swing.
Scheduling
Private lessons are available days, evenings and weekends. To begin scheduling, you may review on online availability or contact us with your preferred days and times. We’ll respond with matching availability in our calendar.
Lesson Confirmations
All private lessons must be confirmed with a credit card number, pre-paid or covered by a private lesson package. For lesson confirmations via credit cards, we require a MC or Visa number, with expiration date and billing zip. We do not charge the card; we securely keep the information on file against our no-show and cancellation policies.
Payment
At the time of the lesson, you may choose to pay via Cash, Check, MasterCard, Visa or Discover.
Suggested Number of Lessons
Over the years, we have found that most couples average between 3 and 5 lessons to attain their desired comfort level and variety of moves. We’ve also seen time and time again that even one lesson will make a huge difference in your confidence level, which is the key to looking graceful and elegant on the dance floor.
Bring Your Music
For private lessons, be sure to bring your song on a CD or iPod, so that we may start using it on the first lesson. Should you forget, no worries. We’ll use a similar song in feel and tempo from our collection.
Dress
For your initial lessons, wear comfortable loose clothing. As your wedding date approaches, both ladies and gentlemen should wear shoes similar to their wedding shoes (or begin to break in your wedding shoes). In addition, the gentlemen should bring a jacket if they will be wearing one for the first dance. We want to ensure you get a chance to dance in the clothing most similar to your wedding attire.
Cancellation
Take a moment to familiarize yourself with our cancellation and rescheduling policies to avoid any penalties for cancelling or rescheduling lessons.
